A seminar series for establishes artists

After offering the successful pre.formance seminar series for newcomers to Berlin’s independent performing arts community, we are very pleased to be able to launch the pro.formance series for established artists beginning in October 2017.

In doing so, the keywords reflection, communication and change of perspective will permeate the programming of the seminar series, which follows a procedural approach with the seminars building upon each other. The seminars within the series build upon each other and provide the participants with competencies for practical questions they will face over the course of their further professional development.

  • The series is divided into 5 seminars, each of which is 6 hours long.
  • A certificate will be issued to all participants in the seminar series.
  • The number of participants is limited to 12.
  • Participation in the series of seminars is free of charge.

Program of pro.formance

Kickoff Event
With: Eva Hartmann, Kristin Guttenberg and Christina Runge
Wednesday, October 11, 2017 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Kunsthaus ACUD, Veteranenstraße 21, 10119 Berlin

Seminar A – Creating Space for Reflection
Workshop Director: Eva Hartmann
Thursday, October 12, 2017 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Centre Français de Berlin, Müllerstrasse 74 13349 Berlin, room 106

Creating Space for Reflection – this seminar is dedicated to an exchange of experiences regarding our communication with ourselves and others – and how a small change in our communication and behavioral habits can bring about a great deal. We then intend to implement these for ourselves directly in practical exercises and experience them for ourselves.

Seminar B – Conquering Time
Workshop Director: Kristin Guttenberg
Tuesday, October 24, 2017, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Lettrétage, Mehringdamm 61, 10961 Berlin

Conquering Time – in the 2nd module, we will devote ourselves to the core resource of time: we will examine how to deal with time constructively in the communication and creation processes. How does one move to functioning procedures? The seminar also examines artistically central aspects such as improvisation and dynamic processes, such as the valuable resource of breaks: for free space, presence and regeneration for healthy living and working in creation, performing and the complex business of working as an artist.

Seminar C – Research Working Environments
Workshop Director: Eva Hartmann
Thursday, November 9, 2017, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Research Working Environments – there are different ways of being active. Some prefer to work by themselves. How do you communicate with yourself in order to organize and motivate yourself? How can you be your own challenging boss? Others prefer working with others – but do they prefer to be part of a team with a flat hierarchy or do they prefer having a boss at the top of the organization? Who takes responsibility and how is each individual motivated – in both of these models or in another one entirely?
This seminar is dedicated to these and other questions – which will then examine through practical exercises.

Seminar D – Opening Drawers
Workshop Director: Christina Runge
Wednesday, November 15, 2017, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
EDEN*****STUDIOS, Breite Straße 43, 13187 Berlin

Opening Drawers – together, we will examine unrealized concepts, rejected funding applications or half-explored sketches of ideas*. Is the project as a whole still relevant for us? Or are there parts of it that we would like to transform into something different? Concepts often remain unrealized because we do not have the time to reconsider them. This workshop module is intended to provide the space to achieve clarity: reset or delete?

*Each participant is asked to bring one of their projects along

Seminar E – Climbing Watchtowers
Workshop Director: Kristin Guttenberg
Tuesday, December 5, 2017, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Lettrétage, Mehringdamm 61, 10961 Berlin

Climbing Watchtowers –the processes and materials of the last seminars will be examined from a bird’s eye view, the expanded field will be explored and from there we will zoom in our focus in order to be able to reflect upon the first and next steps as well as to develop prototypes for new approaches and projects.
