German Cultural Policy Update

German cultural policy is faced with great challenges. A large radical right-wing parliamentary group has formed in the Bundestag that brings a contemptuous concept of culture with it. How can cultural associations position themselves here and organize themselves in such a manner to avoid something awful? One month after the German elections it may also be evident who the new Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media will be. Which cultural policy changes for the independent performing arts community can we anticipate? How can the formulation of the clear needs of dance, theater and performance makers working independently all throughout Germany be made here? How will funding on the federal level (direct funding, as well as the Kulturstiftung des Bundes – the German Federal Cultural Foundation) change?
