"Good Art" - And? Identifying and Discussing Criteria
"Good Art" - And? Identifying and Discussing Criteria
The foundation of judgement in the artistic field is the ill-defined and seldom publicly discussed category of "quality" which is found everywhere in artistic production and assessment processes in formulations such as "it (doesn't) work" and which seems to remain the ultimate argument deployed in the debate of legitimation. But where is "quality" actually found? And does talking about this category serve to protect artistic freedom or does it ultimately prevent a coming to terms with criteria, fairness and transparency? The participants in the panel discussion will attempt to speak about the current concept of quality and find alternative designations. Over the course of an open conversation together with the audience, they will speak about the criteria according to which they judge art, whether anything like a "canon" exists within the independent performing arts community and what actually happens to art that is not deemed to be "good".
