Jonas Tinius: The Transformative Potential of Performance

The research of the outstanding social anthropologist Jonas Tinius (King’s College, Cambridge) has focused for years, amongst other topics, on the independent performing arts in Berlin.

In his observations, he does not draw distinctions between genres, works, living and production conditions but instead creates a holistic picture of an “ethical-aesthetic tradition” of independently working artists. His research and his conclusion provide an impression of how changes in living and production conditions and aesthetic forms and topics are interlinked. Extraordinary and new paths in reflecting upon and describing the performative are pursued within and by the network “[A/A] Anthropologies of Art” that he founded (with Alex Flynn).
