Encounters Between Berlin and the SWANA Region

In Arabic spoken language with whispered English translation. Q&A possible in Arabic, English, and German. The event is part of a series focusing on different language groups and/or communities, such as those from Francophone or Latin American regions.

Berlin is the German city with the largest population of people with roots in the SWANA region (Southwest Asia and North Africa). Many artists move professionally between continents, continually redefining how exchange and collaboration can succeed.

The event opens with Theater X presenting its long-standing experience working with organizations and groups from the SWANA region.

This is followed by the panel discussion Resistance of Art or the Art of Resistance?, which explores the intersection of art and politics. This topic often sparks heated debates—yet rarely do we ask who can actually afford a strict separation between art and politics. After all, the link between the two is often less a matter of choice than of necessity: the necessity to resist unjust realities. What possibilities does art offer that other forms of expression do not? What shapes can artistic resistance take? And how can we respond to (social or institutional) resistance against resistance itself?

The evening concludes with an informal networking session.

Accessibility

Theater X is located on the ground floor. It has a ramp to the stage, a wheelchair space in the audience area, and an accessible restroom.
