Feminist Leadership in the Arts - Feministische Führung in den Künsten (Part 2)

Everyone is talking about new leadership models. But where do they lead? And with which attitude? Feminist leadership challenges traditional notions of power and aspires toward a socially just world in which neither people nor natural resources are exploited and equality between all genders has been achieved. In art, power relationships are often discussed, revealed and criticized. Idealistic messages and visions for a better world will be developed. But do these ideals correspond to our ways of working? Are our rehearsal and production spaces critical of power? In what way do we reproduce patriarchal ways of working and power dynamics ourselves?

In this two-day follow-up workshop, we will look back on the topics of power, responsibility and transparency and then examine new aspects: including toxic productivity, calmness as a form of resistance, forms of collaboration and options for feminist resolving of conflicts. Collegial feminist advisement will be just as much a part of the materials as examples from practical experience and specific scenarios.

In order to prepare, the participants are asked to interview a theater, dance company or collective or someone tasked with institutional leadership who they think leads from a feminist standpoint. We will provide a series of questions and search for “good pratices” together in this workshop.

For participants who did not attend the workshop Feminist Leadership in the Arts – Feministische Führung in den Künsten (Part 1) in June 2026, initial experience in the concept of feminist leadership as well as the preparatory reading of selected texts is required. The texts will be provided upon registration.
