International Guest Curators Join BAM! – Berlin's Festival for Contemporary Music Theater

November 20 to 23, 2025

The Performing Arts Program, in cooperation with the Contemporary Music Theater Berlin e. V., is covering the travel and accommodation costs of four selected curators from other European countries in order to support on-site exchange and to enhance the visibility of Berlin’s music theater productions among international curators.

On November 22, a professional meeting on this topic will take place at the Neuköllner Oper. In pitching and networking sessions, the invited curators and a selection of Berlin-based artists will have the opportunity to present themselves and engage in conversation with one another.

About the Festival

BAM! – Berlin Festival for Contemporary Music Theatre presents the diversity and richness of Berlin’s music-theatre scene beyond traditional opera forms.

Since 2018, the festival has brought together artists who explore social questions through new forms beyond the conventional opera and who continue to develop music theatre as an art form. Internationally, Berlin is regarded as a laboratory for contemporary music theatre – with BAM!, this scene gains a platform that makes its variety visible and continually expands its audience.

In 2025, the festival will take place in Neukölln for the first time, with the Neuköllner Oper as its main venue and additional performance spaces throughout the neighbourhood. Under the motto “Where do we go from here?”, BAM! focuses on current crises and questions about the future.

The programme brings together world premieres, international guest performances and new formats such as sound installations, performances in urban space, and late-night events. With children’s productions, workshops, and inclusive activities, BAM! also reaches young and diverse communities.

The festival’s target audiences are wide-ranging: the core audience of contemporary music theatre, culturally engaged Berliners, communities in Neukölln, and professional visitors from the field. In this way, BAM! serves as an artistic laboratory, a cultural-political statement, and a vibrant meeting place for the artistic scene, the city’s society, and a global network.
