Open Call for Communication and Audience Campaigns – 2024 Berlin Independent Performing Arts Community Days

We have big news! For the first time, the Berlin Performing Arts Program will be coordinating the Berlin Independent Performing Arts Community Days. With this new format, we would like to specially communicate the diversity of the independent performing arts to a broad audience at the beginning of the 2024/2025 season and then on an annual basis afterward. At the core of this event is a shared, community-wide campaign for the cultural offerings of the independent performing art in the time period from September 5 to 15, 2024 with which, above all, the Berlin-based audience should be addressed.

 

In order to facilitate this, we are launching an open call for communication and audience campaigns that is primarily intended for the operators of performance venues and producing organizations for the independent performing arts in Berlin (suggestions from other members of the community are welcome as well): we are looking for suggestions for opportunities and campaigns that will take place in the time period mentioned above alongside and with the regular theatrical programming such as, for example, open rehearsals, open houses, venue tours or festivals. In doing so, we would also like to place a focus on accessible offerings for audiences and, as a result, are on the lookout for, for example, opportunities such as audio descriptions, tactile tours, relaxed performances, translations or childcare.

 

For all of these opportunities and offerings, it does not matter whether they were already planned or were conceived especially for the Berlin Independent Performing Arts Community Days - the main point is that an ancillary schedule of programming that is as diverse as possible and as easy to access as possible which is attractive to Berlin’s civic society and has the potential to lead a new audience to the community.

For the 2024 Berlin Independent Performing Arts Community Days, we are on the lookout for communication and audience campaigns coming from Berlin’s Independent Performing Arts Community that…

  • Take place during the time period from September 5 to September 15, 2024
  • Take place alongside and in support of the regular artistic programming (for example open rehearsals, open houses, venue tours or festivals or communication and audience campaigns)
  • Are specifically intended for a Berlin audience and/or Berlin civic society
  • Will be conducted independently by the performance venues or producing organizations and/or the theater makers - it is unfortunately not possible for the Berlin Performing Arts Program to provide any organizational or financial support
  • Allow access for a new audience with as few barriers as possible
  • That, in the best case, will initiate the beginnings of establishing a sustainable relationship to the audience
     

Who Is This Call Intended For?

  • This is primarily intended for the operators of performance venues and producing organizations within Berlin’s independent performing arts community
  • Appropriate suggestions from other people work in the field of culture are also welcome
     

Why Are We Initiating the Berlin Independent Performing Arts Community Days?

  • With an annual community-wide campaign, we would like to communicate the diversity of Berlin’s independent performing arts community to Berlin’s civil society in a bundled manner and, while doing so, get new groups of audience members excited about the independent performing arts community. The focus should be placed on easily accessible offerings that create as sustainable relationships with the audience as possible.
     

What We Have To Offer:

  • A comprehensive coordination of all offerings
  • The announcement and promotion in an inter-community campaign
  • Content-based exchange between the providers that are involved in the campaign
  • Cultural policy visibility of the community work of Berlin’s independent performing arts community
  • If necessary, content-based advisement
     

What Should Be Submitted?

  • Title of the offering/event
  • Date and time of the offering
  • A short description of the offering (ca. 700-800 characters incl. spaces)
