Open Call: Table Talk Presentations During the Lab Day Digital Is Dead?! for the (Post) Digital on October 30, 2024

We would very much like to warmly invite you, artists working within the (post) digital community in Berlin, to take part in the open call for the presentation of your perspectives and projects over the course of a table talk format!

The occasion is the Lab Day Digital Is Dead?!, which will take place on October 30, 2024 at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. The Lab Day is dedicated to contemporary questions as part of the discourse surrounding the (post) digital in the performing arts and will open a space to become acquainted with (post) digital working methods: keynote presentations, workshops, discussion formats, live coding and table talks invite the participants to share knowledge, challenges and ideas for work taking place at the interface between performative and digital art.

To close out the Lab Day, we will open up a space for mutual presentation and are inviting colleagues and visiting industry professionals to become acquainted with the diversity of the independent (post) digital community: in an open encounter format, the artists present themselves and their work over the course of multiple rounds with a strict time limit. In the form of table conversations, video inputs, work-in-progress presentations and experimental setups, the artists who attend will provide insights into their work, present digital applications that can be tried out playfully right at the location and will also highlight artistic questions.

Who Is This Open Call Intended For?

The schedule of programming and the open call are intended for interdisciplinary artists and art students who have developed their own artistic-technological working methods and who deal intensively with practices such as, amongst others, creative coding, software development, interaction design, physical computer, XR design and game design.

What Are We Looking For?

During the table talks, a very specific practical approach or access point to an artistic project are intended to be presented that are characteristic for your artistic work that you would like to share with others or that you are especially proud of. The type of presentation is left up to you, for example, it could be that works are presented on the basis of short videos or photos, prototypes can be presented or artistic questions can be discussed.

We are looking for suggestions for presentations with a length of 5 to 7 minutes that can be repeated three to four times in a row during the table talk format and that can be presented to a small audience.

Conditions of Participation for Artists

All artists with a (post) digital practice and whose work is focused in Berlin who have time and interest are invited to take part in the table talk format within the scope of the Lab Day Digital Is Dead?! on October 30, 2024 in Berlin. A fee in the amount of 250 EUR (gross) will be paid for the presentation. We would be pleased if the participating artists also had the time and desire to take part in additional events within the schedule of programming of the Lab Day on October 30, 2024.

Application Procedure

The applications should include a brief description of the idea (max. one A4 page) with the following information:

  • Sketch of the project and/or the digital-artistic point of access

  • Sketch of the practical approach to the presentation idea

  • Information about the presentation format (e.g. discussion and video, digital prototype, any technical equipment that is required, language)

  • Information about any potential accessibility needs during the event

  • Short biography (max. 800 characters)

The schedule of programming of the table talks will be determined as a function of the submissions received from the open call and may be supplemented by additional curated contributions. You will soon be able to find more information about the schedule of programming and register to attend the conference via the following website: www.hfs-berlin.de

The Lab Day for the (Post) Digital is a cooperation project between the media and performance group OutOfTheBox and the Lab for Digitalism of the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts with kulturBdigital, an offering of the Berlin Technology Foundation, and the Berlin Performing Arts Program of LAFT Berlin.
