Ready for Funding: Budgeting Projects Correctly

This workshop is intended for artists and culture makers who in the process of preparing funding applications, for example, for the comping IMPACT funding program offered by Berlin’s Senate.

Are you on the home stretch to completing your application? Are you done with the project description but the budget is giving you a headache? Are you asking yourself how to properly calculate fees, what guidelines have to be kept in mind and which fees have to be planned?
In this workshop, we will provide an overview of the basic Dos and Don’ts when budgeting and go through the individual positions using the sample budget of the IMPACT funding program offered by Berlin’s Senate. We’ll talk about gross and net, minimum fee limits, social security fees for artists or the German Federal Travel Expenses Act and think about how we can calculate things that we don’t know about yet. The participants will learn how to budget personnel and material costs, estimate work periods and translate their project goals into realistic numbers.

On the basis of this newly acquired knowledge and the answering of individual questions, the participants will be able to revise their budgets and prepare them for their applications.

The participants are asked to bring their written concept as well as an initial budget draft.
