What is it about?

Working in a collective is generally very nice, frequently necessary and sometimes, unfortunately, also quite stressful. While for some working in groups was uncomfortable even during school and they still try even today to work as soloists, more and more artists are turning to work in collectives at the moment. After all, this also has its advantages: Responsibility and decision-making can be spread out amongst multiple persons, costs such as insurance policies can be shared and difficult conversations with funders can be conducted together. Besides, the artistic exchange is included free of charge. And: it’s also just plain fun. For everyone who is now planning to work in a collective (again) or would like to fundamentally change the way they work in their team, this series has the most important information and methods for developing good and productive work within groups. A variety of topics will be handled together with other artists who work in collectives as well as our experts: the group structure and formation process, communication and conflict management, sharpening the group’s profile and marketing as well as payment systems and the legal form.

One For All, All For One
With Eva Hartmann (coach, producer, manager)
January 21, 2021,
10:00 am to 1:00 pm
In this introduction, the focus is placed primarily on what it means to work as a collective: does it mean that every member has their specific task or does everyone do everything? At the end of the day, is there only one person who makes a decision or how can (efficient) decision making be handled in a group? How are tasks fairly distributed and remunerated? What difficulties can arise and what benefits does a collective working structure offer?

“You Can’t Not Communicate!”
With Johanna Freiburg (Gob Squad, She She Pop)
January 28, 2021,
4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
How do you organize yourself within a team and ensure a flow of communication without drowning in a sea of email? How do you avoid communication becoming that eats up time and instead ensure that it remains/will be efficient and goal-oriented? Which (digital) tools and strategies can be found and established in order to make the team coordination and communication easier?

On “I” and “You” and “We”
With Eva Hartmann (coach, producer, manager)
February 4, 2021,
10:00 am to 1:00 pm
How do I deal with conflicts as part of a team? Which management and solution strategies can one appropriate as an individual and agree to within a group? How does loyalty work in the groups – solidarity at any price or what is the breaking point?

Find Your Brand, Sharpen Your Profile
With Madlen Stange
(PR & event manager, musician, cultural activist)
February 11, 2021, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm
How can we find a branding as a group and how can we sharpen our profile? Do we need a logo or a motto? Profiles are not only helpful for collectives for funding applications and performance venues, but also for helping them to determine what the destination of the shared journey is.

And Now Things Are Getting Serious
With Jaqueline Cadmus (lawyer)
February 18, 2021, 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
To close things out, here comes the question of all questions: what legal form is most appropriate for the collective? Does it also officially need a shared form or should the group formally remain individuals? Or, to put it a little differently: will it be a marriage or is it common law?

Payment Systems
With Lisa Lucassen (She She Pop)

March 11, 2021, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm
And here comes the big question about money: how can the fee be divided fairly? What payment forms exist and what are best practice examples? Should the money be divided according to the amount of work and time spent working? Should it all be lumped together and everyone receives an equal share?

Limited number of participants.
