The Berlin Performing Arts Program is presenting its very own trade fair format for the very first time – the Berlin Performing Arts Market. The new format offers national and international curators and presenters the opportunity to establish contacts with Berlin-based artists and independent performing arts groups with production and touring experience. With its pilot edition this year, the Market is dedicating itself as a field of experimentation committed to the question: how can artistic work be presented to a professional audience in an original and creative way without presenting the art itself?
Are you a newcomer to the independent performing arts community and are you looking for exchange and contacts? Do you have questions about getting started in working as a freelancer, about funding opportunities and about making applications for funding? In this networking format, we invite you to present your work, enter into conversation with experts and maybe even find new collaborators.
This event will provide an overview of the most important funding opportunities for the coming three months: What funding programs offered by Berlin’s Senate and its districts are currently accepting applications? What funding programs on the German federal level and on the EU level could be of interest now and what is the current state of things when it comes to stipends and residencies? We will provide a quick overview of the topic and answer the most urgent questions regarding the funding tools with deadlines approaching up until July of 2024.
What is project design? Is there a formula or can everyone create their own formula for project design? The workshop inspects the current recipes for designing projects, reflects on how the design of the project can represent the project identity, and how to construct the project identity in relation to the artistic identity of the maker.
2023 was a round birthday for the Berlin Performing Arts Program: we celebrated ten years of intense and successful work in the networking, exchange and empowerment of the independent performing arts in Berlin since the founding of the program in the year 2013. From October 20 to 22, 2022, more than 450 participants gathered at Theater Strahl to discuss upcoming challenges of our scene(s), to take a look back at the grown structures of the last 10 years and to exchange ideas about the topics of the present.

With the Performing Arts Program, LAFT Berlin has created an effective instrument for the infrastructural strengthening, professionalization and networking of Berlin‘s independent performing arts community.
No matter whether we are talking about a symposium or a cooperation event, one questions is always at the forefront of the work of the Berlin Performing Arts Program: what and how can we learn from each other and how can we then integrate it sustainably within our own work?
