IETM Berlin Plenary Meeting 2025 – REHEARSING FUTURES
IETM Berlin Plenary Meeting 2025 – REHEARSING FUTURES
May 15 to 17, 2025
at ufaFabrik Berlin
Viktoriastraße 10-18, 12105 Berlin
We are co-organizing the 2025 IETM Plenary Meeting – together with IETM (international network for contemporary performing arts), BFDK (Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste, the Federal Association for the Independent Performing Arts) and ufaFabrik. In light of the current challenges going on in Berin right now in terms of cultural policy, we have decided to organize a special edition of the Plenary Meeting that focuses on collaborative cooperation.
On May 15, 2025, we would like to offer participants the opportunity to get to know the artistic work, the most important discourses, spaces and structures of the performing arts in the host city of Berlin.
Following this, on May 16 and 17, 2025, there will be an extensive conference program with the overarching theme REHEARSING FUTURES for international guests as well as for the local and national independent performing arts communities. The event will therefore be rooted in the resources that define our work: cultivating community, amplifying multiple perspectives and making space for processing our experiences by working with language, the body and emotions.
Together with an international audience, we aim to build on existing ideas and become as concrete as possible: What productive responses do we have to social change, the climate crisis, and the increasing digitalization of our world? What can we learn from our colleagues abroad about dealing with authoritarian politics, restrictions on artistic and freedom of expression, or artistic practices in times of crisis? How can we join forces to explore and shape livable futures together?
In addition to these thematic discussions, the IETM Plenary Meeting will provide plenty of space for exchange and the expansion of your professional networks.
What is an IETM Plenary meeting?
The Plenary is IETM’s biggest in-person meeting of the year, bringing together 400 to 600 cultural practitioners from across the world. Open to IETM network members and non-members alike, participants typically represent different genres and disciplines within the contemporary performing arts and include artists, producers, presenters, students, academics, consultants, government officers, and funders.
IETM is one of the oldest and largest cultural networks, representing the voice of around 500 member organisations and freelancers actively engaged in all disciplines of the contemporary performing arts in over 60 countries worldwide. IETM exists to advocate the value of the arts and culture and to empower performing arts professionals through access to international connections, knowledge and a dynamic forum for exchange. Through international events, publications, advocacy actions, research, projects and more, IETM works to stimulate the quality, development and context of the contemporary performing arts, in all their diversity.
