„Digital is Dead?“

Lab Day about (post)digitality in artistic practices

At most theaters, the digitalization hype that was the result of the years of the pandemic is moving more and more into the background: special digital formats are being discontinued and the funding landscape, which is stretched very thin at the moment anyway, is offering fewer and fewer programs for digital work.

At the same time, digitalism has long since become a cultural practice: artists are adopting digital technologies, making them their own and creating their own (post) digital ways of working. Creative coding, software development, interaction design, physical computer, XR design and game design are moving more and more into the center of artistic education and practice. The analog and the digital are no longer opposite poles; instead, they are very closely interlinked with each other.

Together with the HfS Ernst Busch, the media and performance group OutOfTheBox, with kulturBdigital of the Technologiestiftung Berlin and many members of the independent performing arts community, we will dedicate ourselves to current questions in the discourse surrounding (post) digitalism in the performing arts and will open a space for becoming acquainted with (post) digital ways of working. Is the term digitalism already obsolete and is it already inherent within artistic practice? What workflows do (post) digital artists have? And how can sustainable structures for (post) digital art be established?

The full program can be found at hfs-berlin.de/aktuelles/veranstaltungen/digital-is-dead/ (only available in German).

The event is a cooperation of the media and performance group OutOfTheBox and the Laboratory for Digitality of the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch with kulturBdigital, an offer of the Technologiestiftung Berlin and the Berlin Performing Arts Program of the LAFT Berlin.
