Open Table: Theatre as a Mirror of Social Conflicts

How can theatre reflect current political and social crises? Can theatre be a space for understanding in times of war?

As part of the international project Workshop for Directing and Dramaturgy 'Sammelpunkt' an Open Table will take place on the topic "Theatre as a Mirror of Social Conflicts: How can theatre reflect current political and social crises? Can theatre be a space for understanding in times of war?"

This discussion will feature the jurors and speakers involved in the project, including Luk Perceval (director, Belgium), Birgit Lengers (dramaturg & curator, Germany), Daniel Jacewicz (director, Poland), and Johannes Kirsten (dramaturg, Germany).

The international project Workshop for Directing and Dramaturgy ‘Sammelpunkt’ takes places from February 16 to 24, 2025, in Berlin. This project explores how current European events shape people’s lives and consciousness through dramaturgy and theater. Participants include theater makers from Germany and Eastern Europe (e.g., Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Russia) who are directly or indirectly involved in the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Seven staging concepts will be developed by theater makers from Germany and Eastern European countries. The English- or German-language staging concepts will be presented to the public at Theater Strahl on February 22 and 23, 2025. Please find more information here.

The event is a collaboration between Urban Theater e.V. and the Performing Arts Program of LAFT Berlin.
